Following some simplifications to reduce the computational effort, the Percus-Yevick-van der Waals equation of state is used to calculate the isothermal total pressure of a binary liquid system containing one volatile nonelectrolyte liquid and one nonvolatile ionic liquid. Pure-component parameters a and b are found from pure-component enthalpy-of-vaporization and liquid-density data. The single binary parameter a12 is obtained from Henry's constant for the nonelectrolyte in the ionic liquid. For 10 binary systems, calculated total pressures are in good agreement with experiment although in a few systems observed total pressures are slightly higher than those calculated in the region where the ionic liquid is dilute. The image and van der Waals contributions to the metal/oxide work of adhesion are compared through the extent to which they follow the known prevalent trends, i.e. the increase in work of adhesion (a) with narrowing oxide band gap and (b) with increasing conduction electron density of the metal. The van der Waals interaction is shown to follow both trends, while the image term is suggested to be significant only for dense metals in contact with very ionic oxides. The relative contribution of these long-range interactions to the overall metal/oxide work of adhesion is found to be maximized for systems involving metals with low electronic densities and oxides with wide band gaps. At variance, high metallic electronic densities and narrow oxide gaps likely favour short-range interactions arising from charge transfer. 相似文献

—Spherical particles of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVF2), of 0.3 μm diameter, were deposited onto various substrates including polyester, a polyester-polydimethylsiloxane block copolymer (hereafter referred to as PSBC), and polished silicon. The adhesion force-induced deformations between the particles and substrates were then observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the particles embedded most deeply into the soft PSBC. No embedding of the particles into the Si wafers was observed, although the particles, themselves, appeared to flatten. The particles were also observed to embed into the polyester, although to a lesser extent than they did into the PSBC. Moreover, when the particles contacted samples of polyester which had been plasma-treated in argon, the embedding decreased. Measured contact area diameters are compared to predictions of various models of adhesion. The effect of the thickness of a conducting (Au/Pd) coating on the appearance of the contact zone is also discussed. 相似文献

Drift is a common phenomenon in active sensors and, if left untreated, is generally the limiting factor in their performance. It is shown that drift and spread in sensor characteristics are tightly interwoven due to finite sensitivity to biasing parameters. Modern treatments of drift are dynamical under operating conditions, notably so chopping, the sensitivity variation method and the recently introduced van Putten-method. These methods differ in regards to drift-dependence on biasing. In their application to silicon flow sensors, the first two reduce but do not eliminate drift. The geometric van Putten-method leaves biasing invariant, which eliminates drift and obtains uniform sensor-characteristics leaving drift-free operation. 相似文献

The phase separation between a striped polaron liquid at the particular density and a high density polaron liquid is described
by a modified Van der Waals scheme. The striped polaron liquid represents the pseudo gap matter or Wigner-like polaron phase
at 1/8 doping in cuprate superconductors. The model includes the tendency of pseudo-Jahn-Teller polarons to form anisotropic
directional bonds at a preferential volume with the formation of different “liquid phases”. The model gives the coexistence
of a first low density polaron striped liquid and a second high density liquid that appears in cuprate superconductors for
doping larger than 1/8. We discuss how the strength of anisotropic bonds controls the variation the phase separation scenarios
